A village built around industry
Forest View is small. The 2020 Census counted 792 people, and Wikipedia describes the village as mostly an industrial corridor, with the homes grouped west of Ridgeland Avenue and the Stevenson Expressway and Harlem Avenue running through. Almost every home is a single-family house with its owner living in it, so a residential pickup here means a driveway or a garage.
On the industrial side, a work truck, van or pickup that has died for good is a vehicle like any other to us. We buy cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in any condition.
How Forest View’s rules stack up
Forest View’s code has a few rules that work together, and together they make a dead car hard to keep.
First, a car counts as inoperable once it can’t run under its own power, or once its engine, wheels or other parts have been off or altered for 30 days. Kept outside in public view, that’s a nuisance. After the village sends a notice, the owner has 14 days to get rid of it; after that, police can remove it at the owner’s cost, with a hearing first.
Second, there is a ceiling on how many vehicles a household can keep on open private property: the number of drivers living there, plus two. A dead car may push a household with extra vehicles over the limit.
Third, the lawn is out. Parking on an unpaved front or side yard is banned in residential areas, so “pushing it onto the grass for now” isn’t an option either.
Street parking is no escape. Residential streets close to parking from 1 to 5 a.m. without a police permit, and after 2 inches of snow every public street must be clear until the plows finish. Both are immediate-tow offenses. The one helpful twist: the police can issue a short-term permit for a temporarily disabled vehicle.
Paperwork and the next step
The quickest sales come with the title in hand. Without it, tell us what you can produce, such as registration, an old bill of sale or an insurance card, and we’ll confirm whether Illinois rules allow a scrap sale with those papers before anyone drives out. If you’re still choosing between repairing and selling, our guide to selling a car that doesn’t run compares the options.
Towing is free and you’re paid at pickup, often the same day you call. We also serve nearby Stickney and Summit; see every town we cover.
Selling a car in Forest View: common questions
My car broke down outside my Forest View house overnight. Will it be ticketed?
Residential streets in Forest View are closed to parking from 1 to 5 a.m. without a permit, and those violations are immediate-tow offenses. Section 9-2-8 lets the police issue a short-term permit for a temporarily disabled vehicle, so call them first, then schedule the pickup.
Can I keep an old car on the grass beside my garage until I sell it?
No. Section 9-2-3 bans parking on an unpaved front or side yard in residential districts, whether the car runs or not. Move it onto the driveway or into the garage, then call us for a quote.
