A small village with short clocks
Willowbrook covers only about 2.6 square miles, and its code moves fast on cars that stop moving. Three timers are worth knowing.
On the street, the limit is a single day. A vehicle parked on a public street for 24 hours straight can be towed by police, and a 1-inch snowfall clears every public street for 12 hours. Nights are tighter still: the 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. ban allows police exceptions on no more than 3 nights in a calendar month. On private property you get more time, but not much: a wrecked or nonoperating vehicle can stay no more than 10 days unless it is hidden from public places and the neighbors, or kept in an enclosed building. Registration matters as well, since the village bars keeping a vehicle on a lot without a current Illinois license.
If your car hits any of those limits, the quickest fix is to sell it before a notice or a tow arrives.
Pickup from condo and apartment lots off Route 83
Most Willowbrook homes, about 59%, are in multi-unit buildings, and the village’s commercial growth since the 1980s has followed Route 83 and I-55. Towing from a shared lot is no problem; clear it with the building manager first and tell us the space number and any gate details.
For single-family homes, the pickup happens from the driveway or garage. Old Route 66 runs along Willowbrook’s southern edge as the I-55 frontage road, so if your place is down near Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket, that road is a handy landmark for the driver.
The paperwork at the curb
Sign the title over at pickup if you have it. A short bill of sale is still worth keeping for your records, and our guide to the Illinois bill of sale for a junk car lists what to put on one. If the title is missing, tell us which papers you do have. We’ll compare them with what Illinois requires for a scrap transfer while you’re on the phone.
Neighbouring towns
Willowbrook borders Burr Ridge and Hinsdale, and we buy junk cars in both. You can find all of our towns on the locations page.
Selling a car in Willowbrook: common questions
How long can a broken-down car stay on a Willowbrook street?
Not long at all. Police can tow any vehicle left on a public street for 24 consecutive hours, overnight parking is prohibited 2:00 to 6:00 a.m., and a 1-inch snowfall clears the streets for 12 hours. Push it onto private pavement and call us.
Does a junk car parked behind my building count under the 10-day rule?
The 10-day limit applies unless the car is in an enclosed building or not readily visible from public places or neighboring property. A car in plain view of the parking lot or the neighbors usually doesn't meet that exception, so plan the sale before day ten.
Can I put a for-sale sign on a dead car parked on the street?
No. Willowbrook bars parking on a street or right-of-way mainly to display a vehicle for sale, and also bars washing or repairing cars there except emergency repairs. Selling it to us avoids both problems.
