A Route 66 city
Joliet Road is old Route 66, and in Countryside it’s the main street. City Hall sits at 803 Joliet Road, the Lyons Township hall is at 6404 South Joliet, and the Operating Engineers Local 150 is based at 6200. Around 1917, the Marx Brothers’ family bought a chicken farm near Joliet and La Grange Roads, before the area was much more than farmland.
Countryside grew after the Second World War. Its first subdivision, LaGrange Terrace, went up in 1947, followed by the Don L. Dise and Edgewood Park subdivisions in the 1950s, and the city incorporated in 1960. Today the housing is a real mix: fewer than half of the homes are detached houses, and more than a third are in buildings of five or more units.
So a junk car here might be in the garage of a house in one of the postwar subdivisions, or in a numbered space behind an apartment building. Tell us which, and give us the lot entrance if it’s the second.
Street parking has an annual limit
Countryside’s overnight rule is tighter than it looks. From 2 to 6 a.m., parking on city streets needs police authorization, one night at a time, and each vehicle gets at most 14 authorizations in a year. A car that has died at the curb burns through that allowance quickly.
Unpaid tickets carry their own risk. A vehicle parked illegally on a city street whose owner has 10 or more unpaid parking tickets can be seized and impounded. The city code also has a full chapter on abandoned and inoperable vehicles, declaring them a nuisance and letting the city remove them. A dead car is safest on private property until it’s gone.
What sets the offer
We price each car on its own: weight, which parts are still worth something, whether it’s complete, and how easy it is to reach and load. Our guide to what a junk car is worth covers those factors, plus the warning signs of a lowball quote.
The title makes the sale fastest. If it’s missing, tell us what you have, and we’ll confirm what Illinois rules allow for a scrap sale before booking. Towing is free and payment is made at pickup.
We also buy cars in neighboring Indian Head Park, Hodgkins and La Grange Highlands. Our locations directory lists the rest.
Selling a car in Countryside: common questions
Can I leave my broken car on a Countryside street overnight until pickup?
Only with police authorization. Countryside restricts street parking from 2 to 6 a.m., and each night needs its own approval, capped at 14 per vehicle in a 12-month period. Keep a dead car in the driveway or garage instead, and save those nights for guests.
Do you pick up from apartment complexes in Countryside?
Yes. More than a third of Countryside's homes are in buildings of five or more units. Give us the building address, the lot entrance, and where the car is parked, plus any gate or garage access details, and we'll plan the tow.
