Two kinds of junk vehicles in one village
Elk Grove Village has two sides. There’s the residential village, mostly single-family homes, about three-quarters of them owner-occupied. And there’s the business park, 5.9 square miles along the west edge of O’Hare holding close to 3,600 businesses. We buy from both.
On the residential side, that might be a family car that finally quit. In the business park, it might be a cargo van with a blown engine, a pickup that failed inspection, or a fleet car nobody wants to fix. Either way, the process is the same: describe it, get an offer, and we tow it at no charge and pay at pickup.
The 15-day clock after a police notice
Elk Grove’s code calls a car inoperable once it has been unable to drive under its own power for at least 7 days. It becomes a nuisance, on a driveway, a street or a business lot, as soon as police issue notice. From that point the owner has 15 days to remove it or get it running, and daily fines can follow.
Business lots have one more rule to watch. Trucks, tractors, semitrailers and trailers can’t stand or park longer than loading or unloading takes. A broken-down truck parked out front can draw attention quickly.
Overnight and snow rules for the car at home
No one may park on an Elk Grove street from 2 to 5 a.m., though residents can request up to 5 overnight permissions a month. Snow is stricter: once 2 inches accumulate, nobody may park on a street for the next 24 hours, and violators can be towed with fees owed before release. A dead car belongs in the driveway or garage until our truck arrives.
Paperwork for people and companies
For a personal car, the title in your name is simplest. If it’s missing, read us whatever you can find, from an expired registration to an insurance card or an old bill of sale, along with your photo ID. State rules set which of those are acceptable for scrapping, and you’ll get a straight answer before we schedule anything. For a company vehicle, let us know which business is on the title and who signs for it. Our guide to an Illinois bill of sale for a junk car shows what the sale paperwork should cover.

The village borders Schaumburg to the northwest and Mount Prospect to the northeast, and Des Plaines lies east. All are on our service area list.
Selling a car in Elk Grove Village: common questions
Do you buy dead box trucks and company vans from the Elk Grove business park?
Yes. We buy work vans, pickups and other company vehicles in any condition. Tell us the make, model and condition, where it's parked, and whose name is on the title, then have someone who can sign for the company available when we pick it up.
How long does Elk Grove Village give me after an inoperable-vehicle notice?
Fifteen days from the police notice under § 6-3-9, either to remove the vehicle or make it run. Fines can be charged for each day after that. Selling it for scrap is often quicker than a repair; same-day pickup is often possible.
