The sticker covers stored cars, too
Northfield’s sticker rule reaches past the cars people actually drive. The village says every vehicle registered or stored in Northfield needs one, displayed on the driver’s side of the windshield. Passenger cars, trucks and RVs display a sticker; motorcycles and trailers get medallions instead.
That wording matters for a junk car. A sedan with a blown engine parked in the garage is still “stored” in the village. If you know it’s never going back on the road, the timing of the sale makes a difference: the sticker year starts July 1, and renewal forms go out in May. Selling in spring means one less sticker to buy. If the car is gone before the forms arrive, let Village Hall know, so the new application lists only the vehicles you still keep.
Where Northfield ends and its neighbors begin
Northfield is small, about 5,800 people, and its edges are easy to blur. The ZIP code 60093 is shared with Winnetka, school districts split the village (part of it east of the old Chicago and North Western tracks goes to Wilmette’s Avoca district, a sliver goes to Glenview’s District 34), and the forest preserve runs along part of the edge.
For the pickup itself, none of that matters. Give us the street address and where the car sits. For rules, it does: a Northfield address follows Northfield’s sticker and village code, not Winnetka’s or Glenview’s.
Have these on hand
Most Northfield homes are owner-occupied houses, so the car is typically in a garage or on the drive. Have keys if you can find them, and mention flat tires or a car that won’t roll.
Paperwork: a title in your name makes it quick. If it’s missing, you have two routes. You can request a duplicate first (our guide to replacing a lost Illinois title covers it), or you can tell us what documents you have now, like registration or an insurance card and your license, and we’ll explain on the phone what Illinois rules allow for a scrap sale.

Selling a car in Northfield: common questions
Do I need a Northfield sticker for a car that just sits in my garage?
The village says stickers are required for all vehicles registered or stored in Northfield, so a stored car isn't automatically exempt. If the car won't be driven again, selling it before the new sticker year starts on July 1 avoids paying for one more year.
My mail says Winnetka, but I live in Northfield. Does that matter for pickup?
Not for the tow. ZIP 60093 is shared, and Northfield is an accepted name for it. Give us your street address and we'll find you. It does matter for local rules: Northfield's sticker and village code apply to Northfield addresses.
