Palatine’s overnight limit is 15 minutes
Palatine writes its overnight rule as a time limit. Between 1 and 6 a.m., no vehicle may sit on a street, an alley or a parkway for more than 15 minutes unless the village manager signs off, and police can move violators. A car with a dead battery or a blown head gasket obviously can’t be moved every quarter hour, so leaving it at the curb overnight is not an option.
Snow tightens things further. Once 2 inches pile up, street parking is off for 24 hours, and anything blocking the plows can be hauled away on an emergency basis.
Townhouse lots, apartment garages and driveways
Housing in Palatine leans away from the classic detached house. Census figures put detached homes at roughly 42% of units, with another 15% or so in attached townhouses and about a third in buildings of five or more units. That means a lot of junk cars here live in shared parking: an assigned space in a townhouse court, a numbered stall in an apartment garage.
On top of the village’s 7-day definition of an inoperable car, the zoning appendix gives a non-running or unlicensed vehicle only 48 hours on residential property outside a fully enclosed garage.
For a lot pickup, tell us the stall number, whether the car rolls and steers, and if there’s a height limit on the garage entrance. We bring the right truck and tow it free. You’re paid at pickup.
What shapes the offer for a Palatine car
Offers depend on the car itself: its weight, which parts still have resale value, whether it’s complete, and whether a title is in hand. Our guide on what a junk car is worth explains each factor. Without the title, the next step is a quick inventory: any registration, insurance card or bill of sale showing the car’s VIN, plus your ID. What Illinois accepts for scrapping depends on the situation, so we go over your papers on the phone before booking the truck.
Routes we run around Palatine
Route 53 has exits at Northwest Highway, Rand Road and Algonquin Road inside Palatine, so reaching a driveway near Harper College or out by Ela Road is straightforward for a tow truck. Next door, Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights are on the same runs, and our full service-area list covers the rest of Cook, DuPage and Will.
Selling a car in Palatine: common questions
My Palatine townhouse association won't let a dead car sit in guest parking. What are my options?
Palatine's own code treats a car that can't run under its own power for 7 days as a nuisance anywhere outside a building, so the association isn't your only deadline. A junk sale clears the space without a repair bill. Call with the year, make and model and same-day free towing is often possible.
What does the village do after it finds an inoperable car?
Section 28-123 has the village serve a notice, in person or by certified mail, telling the owner to dispose of the vehicle within 15 days. If it stays, § 28-126 lets police dispose of it under the Illinois Vehicle Code. Selling it to us before then ends the matter.
