Five days is the whole runway
Villa Park’s limit is short. A car, station wagon or truck that doesn’t run, or isn’t registered, may stay on residential property for 120 hours. That’s five days. After that it has to be inside an enclosed garage or gone, and the zoning code repeats the point for every residential district.
The village also says repairs belong inside the garage. So the usual plan of “I’ll fix it on the driveway this weekend” only works if the job is small and the garage has room. For anything bigger, it is worth getting a scrap offer before the five days run out.
What decides the offer
Most homes in Villa Park are single-family houses, which keeps pickup simple, but the offer itself depends on the car, not the address. We look at:
- how much the car weighs, because steel and aluminum set the floor;
- which major parts remain, from the engine and transmission to the catalytic converter;
- how complete it is, including wheels, doors and glass;
- whether it rolls, or needs to be dragged or winched onto the truck.
Our guide on how much your junk car is worth explains each one. We don’t post prices because they move with the scrap metal market.
Streets, snow routes and the Prairie Path side of town
Villa Park sits between North Avenue and Roosevelt Road, just west of Route 83, with the Illinois Prairie Path running across it. Every street is closed to parking from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m., and on snow routes such as Villa Avenue, Ardmore Avenue and Addison Avenue, 2 inches of snow clears the curb until plowing is done.
A car left on the street is also quick to be labeled abandoned here, after as little as 24 hours if it looks deserted. Keep it on the driveway and the driver collects it from there. If you live in one of the Ovaltine factory lofts or another apartment building, clear the tow with management and tell us the space number.

Selling a car in Villa Park: common questions
How long can a broken car stay at my Villa Park house?
Five days, unless it is in an enclosed garage. The village code caps an inoperative or unregistered car, station wagon or truck on residential property at 120 hours, and the zoning code says the same thing about storing one outside a garage.
Can I fix the car in my driveway to beat the limit?
Not in Villa Park. Both the village code and the zoning code require vehicle repairs in residential areas to happen inside an enclosed garage. If the repair can't be done there, selling the car is usually the faster way to stay within the rules.
When is a car on a Villa Park street considered abandoned?
On the public way, a car counts as abandoned when it is in no shape to be driven, or if it has sat unmoved for at least 24 hours and appears abandoned. Add the 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. parking ban, and the street is no place for a dead car.
