Country Club Hills runs on short clocks. Where many suburbs give a dead car a week or ten days, this city counts in hours: a vehicle is “inoperable” once parts are removed or visibly damaged for 48 consecutive hours, and “abandoned” can mean a car that hasn’t moved for 48 hours on public or private property, or any car outside an enclosed garage without current state plates.
What the 48-hour rules mean at home
Leaving an inoperable or abandoned vehicle on a street, or allowing one on your property, is a public nuisance. Police attach a notice to the vehicle demanding removal in 48 hours. Throwing a tarp over it, or rolling it under a carport or other unenclosed structure, doesn’t fix the violation.
There is one break for sellers. If you’re selling the car, the code gives you 30 days after notice. That’s the window to use: call, get an offer, and have it towed before the 30 days run out. Registered antiques 25 years or older, cars inside a building, and repair or wrecking businesses are exempt from these rules.
Overnight and snow rules
The whole city has a 3 to 6 a.m. street-parking ban, and it reaches state highways inside city jurisdiction too. A disabled vehicle can stay up to 24 hours with notice to police, and residents may park in front of their own house overnight three days in any 30-day period.
Snow is a hard line. Once two inches are on a residential street, no one may park there, and cars left behind can be towed without warning.
Pickup across the city
Nine in ten homes here are single-unit houses, so most cars we collect sit in driveways off Cicero Avenue (IL-50), 175th Street, 183rd Street or Pulaski Road. The city borders Cook County forest preserves on the west; if your house backs onto that edge, mention any long driveway. The I-57 and I-80 interchange is inside city limits, so the truck reaches you quickly.
Papers: a title is best. If you don’t have one, tell us what you can produce, say, a registration card, an insurance card, a seller’s bill of sale and your ID. Illinois rules decide which documents support a scrap sale, and we confirm on the call. Our guide on selling a junk car without a title in Illinois explains more. Towing is free and payment comes at pickup.
We also buy in Hazel Crest, Matteson and Oak Forest, and in all the towns on our coverage page.
Selling a car in Country Club Hills: common questions
I got a notice for an inoperable car but I'm selling it. How long do I have?
Country Club Hills gives an owner who is selling the vehicle 30 days after notice, under Sec. 6.2.03(E). Call us once you have the notice so the sale and the free tow happen before that window closes.
My car broke down overnight on a Country Club Hills street. Is it going to be ticketed?
The 3 to 6 a.m. ban has an exception for a disabled vehicle: it may stay up to 24 hours if you notify the police. After that, and in any snowfall over two inches, it's at risk of a tow. Call the police first, then call us.
