Two days and the clock runs out
Midlothian gives a dead car very little room. The zoning code lets a non-running vehicle stay in a residential district for two days at most, after which it has to be inside a garage or another fully closed building. The front, side and rear yards all count against you. Work vans and trailers are held to a tighter standard still: one hour on a residential lot, and none on the public right-of-way.
The lawn is off limits to every vehicle, running or not. Section 10-15-24 prohibits parking over grass or in a front-yard area unless the village has signed off on that spot. In practice a dead car belongs in the garage, or on the driveway for a very short time.
Creeks, ditches and wet cars
Water is a fact of life here. The Cal-Sag Channel Tributary, Natalie Creek, Midlothian Creek and the Calumet Union Drainage Ditch all cross the village on their way to the Cal-Sag Channel. The 2019 stormwater plan looked at Jolly Homes, Belly Button Hill near 151st Street, Bremen Heights along Kenneth Avenue and the stretch beside Natalie Creek, and it noted that runoff sits in low spots until the storm sewers catch up.
A car that stood in floodwater can be a write-off even when the body looks clean. If an insurer is deciding on a total loss, read what happens with a totaled car in Illinois for the salvage-title side of it. We buy flooded cars, and towing costs you nothing.
Overnight and winter parking
From 2 to 5 a.m. a car on a Midlothian street is limited to 30 minutes. Once snow nears 2 inches, parked cars must come off the street and stay off until plowing wraps up. A vehicle with a “For Sale” sign may only be parked on a dealer lot, and anything left in an alley has to leave 10 feet of clearance.
Paperwork, payment and nearby towns
You’re paid at pickup. Have your ID and the title together. If the title is missing, list the other papers you have and we’ll explain on the call which ones Illinois accepts for a scrap sale.
The Rock Island line stops at the Midlothian station, and Village Hall sits on Pulaski Road at 148th Street. We also buy cars in Robbins, Posen and Oak Forest; the full service-area list has the rest.
Selling a car in Midlothian: common questions
How long can a non-running car stay in a Midlothian driveway?
Two days. Zoning § 4-18-22(B)(7) lets a non-working vehicle stay in a residential district that long, then requires a garage or other closed building; none of the yards qualifies. Arrange a sale soon after the car quits.
Will you buy a car damaged in a Midlothian flood?
Yes. We buy cars in any condition, including ones that took on water. If your insurer is involved, settle the claim first, since a total-loss payout can change who owns the car and what title it carries. Then call us with whatever papers you have.
